CALOR GAS
Calor Gas are streamlining their range – this may affect which gas cylinder you now use in your tourer
From 1st February 2023, the Cube, 3.9kg Propane, 4.5kg Butane, 6Lite Propane and 12kg Butane will be discontinued. This means that customers won’t be able to buy new cylinders or exchange existing cylinders of these sizes for a refill.
We will continue to swap out like for like until our stock levels have run out and then we will be swapping for the size recommended to us by Calor Gas. Please be aware that under the new procedure, 4.5kg butane will be exchanged for a 7kg cylinder which requires a different regulator.

Now Stocking Aran Hufen Iâ Ice Cream
Great for the heatwave, we have just started stocking Aran Hufen Iâ ice cream in our shop!
Handmade ice cream based in our very own historic market town of Bala, North Wales, Snowdonia.
Set beside the lake ‘Llyn Tegid’, the view of the mountain Aran provides inspiration for creating artisan ice cream with locally sourced ingredients.
All of the ice cream is made in the shop in Bala (well worth a visit!) – even the honeycomb for the Honeycomb Crunch flavour – and everything is handmade with the assistance of a mixer. They are then filled, stickered and packaged on site in the kitchen.
They only use Welsh cream and locally sourced ingredients to find the best flavours possible.
Keep Safe In The Heatwave at Pen Y Bont
Please take care if visiting during the hot weather – we have plenty of ice creams, chilled drinks and water for sale in the shop, freezer facilities for ice blocks and Bala Lake only a few minutes away for a much needed cooling dip!

Wirral Ice Swimmers visit Pen Y Bont Touring Park & Llyn Tegid
Wirral Ice Swimmers stayed with us at Pen Y Bont Touring Park over the last weekend in June as they braved the waters for a 24hour swim in Bala Lake.
“OMG we did it!!!! – the 2022 Baltic Straits Team Relay and it was definitely a challenge. Two teams set out to each swim 35 miles in 24 hours but, by the morning, we became a single team completing 70 miles as it became clear the distance was the challenge not competing against each other.
Conditions were sun, wind, rain, hailstones, and a few little calm bits. The moored boats near our course pitched, yawed and swung about as we headed into twilight. The wind gusts were so strong through the night they snapped a shoud and the mast came down on one of the boats on the moorings. Sharks-teeth waves broke over the swimmers heads. Some of the lake was drunk. The gazebo had to be tied down with boulders but we kept going, starting 09:00 on Saturday, finishing 07:50 on Sunday 26th June. Vast pans of soup and chilli were consumed. Only coming off the water for 6 hours when swimming just wasn’t possible. Our amazing support crew took turns to sit on a chair at the jetty-end, decked out in multiple Dryrobes clocking us round the laps. At the end of their shift, they had to get help to stand up because otherwise the chair would blow into the lake (again!).”
The Lanky Walker visits Pen Y Bont
A great postcard we received through the post from ‘The Lanky Walker’ after he stayed with us as part of his walk from Hastings to the summit of Snowdon in aid of Dom’s Food Mission. Diolch Matt!
The Big Bala Swim

Saturday 28th May 2022 sees the return of The Big Bala Swim taking place in Llyn Tegid, Bala.
The main open water swim route is 4.5km. To reach the start, swimmers catch the historic Bala Lake Railway to Llangower train station for a beach start. For those looking for a bigger challenge, there is a 9km swim which takes in two lengths of the 4.5km course. There is also a shorter 1.5km swim which is also open to children of 8 years and above.
Pen Y Bont is the ideal base for competitors and spectators alike and we wish everybody taking part the best of luck!
